Character Name: Rob Edwards
Fandom: N/A
World breakdown: Rob's world was a near-duplicate of our world in the early 21st century, apparently devoid of any and all supernatural phenomena, hyper-advanced ancient civilizations, or secret orders with plans of world domination. There were no kaijuu battles, giant robots, or magical girls, and children's card games never decided the fate of humanity. It was a perfectly ordinary world before it was destroyed by the Calamity. Since the Calamity it has been utterly devoid of all life.

To prevent fourth-wall breaking for anyone who doesn't want it, certain media franchises may not exist in the same forms in Rob's world as they do in ours.
Character history: Rob has never been an "average" person. He learned to walk very early and dove into intellectual pursuits quickly. While intelligent and polite as a child, he was uninterested in sports and had extreme difficulty with social interactions. It took a long time for him to understand when someone didn't want to play, that hitting other people wasn't fun for them, and even that telling one person something didn't mean that everyone else would automatically know what he had said. His attempts at having other children over to play inevitably ended in them declaring that they never wanted to come over again. Not being interested in sports certainly didn't help either. Within a few years of starting school he'd unwittingly burned enough bridges to cement his status as an outsider. The worst part for him was that he couldn't understand why this situation occurred; from his point of view everything would be going perfectly until suddenly it wasn't, and it took multiple long conversations with his parents and teachers for him to understand what he had done wrong.

As he got older he encountered further challenges. At one point he tried to join in on a soccer game with his classmates out of a desire to make friends. While attempting to kick the ball, he accidentally kicked a larger boy's shin instead. The other boy was quickly on top of him, holding him to the ground and yelling. Rob wanted to hit the other boy to try and force him off, but when he began the motion he found that he couldn't bring himself to do so and only hit the other boy's collar instead, which only made him angrier. Rob remembers this incident not so much for what happened as for what didn't happen. Whenever he thinks about it he wishes he'd actually hit the other boy and fought back, and as he's read stories about parallel worlds he's started to think of it as a crux point, a moment in time where his life would've followed a different path had he made a different choice, and he wonders if the him that hit the other boy would be stronger, braver, and more of a man than the him that he is now.

Rob's sister was born when he was ten. While he wasn't sure if he wanted to be a big brother at first, he soon grew to love playing with her. As she got older, there was a bit more distance between them as she began to shift her interests away from baby toys and simplistic things that were easy for him to join in on, but he still did things with her when he could. When he went off to university, however, he didn't end up communicating with home much other than when he was called, and when he returned his relationship with his sister had become more distant. As his sister got older and started moving into her rebellious teenage years she and Rob drifted apart even further and neither of them knew how to talk to the other, eventually getting to the point where some days they exchanged less than a dozen words despite living in the same house. Even though their relationship had deteriorated, Rob still loved her and felt his big brother protectiveness well up whenever he saw her with a boy or something happened to hurt her; he just didn't say anything to her, thus she didn't know.

During the summer before starting high school, Rob's parents told him that they were getting a divorce. This came as a complete shock to him, since they seemed to have been getting on especially well lately; in the past he'd been aware of their arguments, but he hadn't noticed that the reason there were fewer of them was because his parents weren't talking as much. He and his sister stayed in the house with their mother while their father moved out. Rob and his sister visited him regularly, but neither of them shared any interests with their father and eventually grew to resent the visits. Once Rob was old enough he stopped visiting, but his sister didn't have that option at her age and began to act out whenever she had to go. Eventually their father stopped the visits entirely, but by that point both Rob and his sister were unhappy with their father for his treatment of Rob's mother and sister and wanted nothing to do with him. Aside from Christmas and birthday cards with nothing in them and no return address, they got their wish. Rob however is well aware of the fact that the things he started to get interested in but can't find teachers for are mostly things that his father is interested in, but until his father apologizes to his sister for how he treated her Rob has no intention of speaking with him.

By the time he was finished elementary school there were only two people he could consider friends. He liked both of them, but his difficulties with proper social behavior struck once again once he went on to high school. One went to the same high school as him, and at first the two of them spent their lunches together, but as Rob began to meet new people he started spending less and less time with his friend, eventually forgetting about him much of the time. The other friend went to a different high school, and that was essentially that. In both cases it never occurred to Rob that he would need to take additional action himself to maintain a relationship where the parties involved weren't in the same room all the time. The longer time went on without contact, the more awkward Rob felt with the idea of trying to get back in touch with them and eventually they slipped out of his mind, only to resurface occasionally to make him feel guilty but too awkward about contacting them after so long to try and rekindle the relationships.

Once Rob got to high school, his situation improved, but still wasn't perfect. He gained a few friends, and people who he couldn't consider friends but were more than just acquantences, but he was hardly a social butterfly. University was a completely different environment, however; while his natural intelligence had gotten him through high school without a problem, the result of that was that he had never learned how to study properly and he failed most of his courses when they proved significantly harder than expected. Dejected, he returned home and got a part-time job while he tried to decide what to do next. That process was interrupted by the Calamity and Rob being brought into the Bastion.

The Bastion was where Rob truly began coming into his own; in the roughly five months he spent there he had a lot of new experiences that affected him in ways large and small. Leaving the relative safety of the Bastion itself to fight wandering monsters was not the wisest move for someone who wasn't very athletic and had no combat experience (a fact that he was aware of at the time and chose to ignore), and he certainly found the experience terrifying and painful, but it was the first time he'd felt like he'd done something worth doing and that justified his continued existence; the actions he took were responsible for keeping him alive and thus had actual weight. Having someone insist on teaching him more about swordfighting focused his efforts toward self-improvement, even if he remained a weak combatant. Hunting and killing a rabbit for the first time was an unpleasant experience for him, as was learning that many of the monsters he had killed were the non-sentient baby forms of other sentient monsters. Afterwards, he decided that he would try to avoid killing animals and monsters if it wasn't necessary, and along with one of his fellow survivors of the Calamity he's been able to form a peaceful relationship with a group of monsters. His rabbit-skull necklace is a reminder of this experience, being made from the first animal he hunted and killed, the first shard he found after arriving in the Bastion's world, and the first shard that dropped from a monster he killed. Through his experiences and interactions with his fellow survivors, he began to gain more self-confidence and open up a bit more, and after surviving an attack that left him with a large, ugly scar on his face, he began forcing himself to dress as he wanted, even if doing so wasn't "normal". Another survivor teaching Rob about hunting and tracking, skills that Rob had wanted to learn for some time, led to an ill-conceived solo hunt of an elk, the success of which resulted in a large burst of self-confidence, and Rob finally began accepting that it was okay for him to spend resources on himself, rather than solely on helping the group. When the final decision had to be made, Rob realized how much he preferred the life he now had to his old one, and chose to preserve what he and the others had built for themselves rather than risk everything trying to change the past.

Along with a number of other people from the Bastion, Rob found himself called to Sol Raveh's world to be a hero of light. Having finally settled into a role in the Bastion, this new change threw him for a loop. While he made new friends and acquired two new Pokémon, he wasn't able to define a role for himself in this new scenario and felt increasingly lost. He gradually pulled away from his fellow heroes of light and spent an increasing amount of time alone.

Rob unexpectedly found himself back in his homeworld, where he learned what effect the Calamity had on it: every living thing had been turned to ash. Finding the remains of his family and friends was a traumatic experience, and he spent the next three months wandering the remains of his world in a state of shock without interacting any living thing other than his Pokémon. Just as unexpectedly as he arrived in his homeworld, he found himself back in Sol Raveh's world.

Character personality:

Even with people he knows well, Rob is fairly stoic and reserved. He rarely displays strong emotional reactions and doesn't go out of his way to give people information about himself. That's not to say that he never talks about himself, and definitely not that he doesn't feel anything; he's just bad at expressing his emotions and doesn't see any reason to talk about himself when there are more interesting things to discuss. He's terrible at small talk and idle chit-chat, leaving a lot of awkward silences when he can't figure out how to continue the conversation, and he has trouble reading subtleties of people's behavior to the point of occasionally misinterpreting the encounter as a whole. In conversations he defaults to being literal-minded if he doesn't pause and mentally double-check that he's interpreting the words he's hearing right. He has trouble carrying a conversation on his own and usually needs to rely on the other party to indicate what he should be talking about.

Rob's strongly introverted, and while he's by no means opposed to interacting with other people he needs time alone to "recharge" after most interactions. People who are loud and overly-friendly make him uncomfortable. He's not unfriendly, especially once he's spoken with someone a few times, but unexpected interactions with others give him trouble and cause him to pull back, which can easily be mistaken for unfriendliness or rudeness. Despite wanting to be friendly it genuinely doesn't occur to him to speak with people unless there's something he wants from them. He's gotten into the habit of letting others choose whether or not to speak with him while he goes about his business or just lurks off to the side. Over his time in the Bastion and the castle in the mist he became more comfortable with initiating conversations, but if he doesn't force himself to then he'll revert to waiting for others to come to him.

If one can get him talking and can get past his general awkwardness with people, they'll find that Rob's friendly and generally kind. He isn't one to judge others. Occasionally he'll be thrown for a loop when encountering someone or something significantly different from any of his previous experiences, but he interacts with people based on their personality and actions, not their species or appearance. Even when he's angry with someone he makes a point of not saying things that he knows will hurt them deeply. He's more likely to deal with someone he doesn't like by following the old "if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all" advice and just ignore them when they try to talk to him in an attempt at not blowing up in their face, but since it usually doesn't occur to him to actually tell anyone what they're doing to annoy him, this can easily create further problems, as demonstrated by him hurting Ibuki Mioda doing this. If he's angry, frustrated, or stressed enough (a rare thing, since he will usually leave the situation beforehand if possible) he can and will move on to yelling matches or beyond if he can't stop himself in time. If the conversation moves into an area that he has particular interest in he can talk at length about the subject and has to stop himself from rambling on about every little thing he knows on the topic.

He's honest and honorable, not promising things that he isn't at least 100% sure that he can deliver and feeling bad if circumstances beyond his control or ability to anticipate prevent him from following through. The times when he's dishonest are times when he doesn't want to hurt or worry other people, and he's almost always willing to listen to others' problems despite how easily he can be drained by dealing with their burdens as well as his own. He'll offer up words that usually make people feel better, but he hates doing so because to him the words are just meaningless platitudes and he isn't actually solving the problems the person has. Rob needs to be both doing and accomplishing something to have any chance of being happy. He doesn't do well with busywork since it doesn't fulfill his need to accomplish things that actually need to be done. When it comes to his workspace or his private space, he can be very territorial about it; it's his and no one else should be interfering with it.

Rob has a large problem with self-confidence. He holds himself to ridiculously high standards and beats himself up over every mistake he makes, even when there's no possible way that a mere mortal like him could have known or done better under the circumstances. He consistently undervalues his achievements, assumes that people think badly of him, and worries that he's not contributing as much as everyone else. During his stay in the Bastion he started getting enough reminders of his value and ability that he doesn't consider himself to be useless, but he still has bouts of self-doubt on a regular basis and downplays his achievements. Ever since he acquired his wolf headdress he's used it as a confidence-boosting crutch. When he wears it over his face he finds it significantly easier to act like he wants; the headdress becomes the face he displays to the world, allowing him to avoid feeling self-conscious about his actions since he can convince himself that nobody is associating them with his normal self. The result is his "warrior persona", the confident self who doesn't care what others think of him, unlike his normal self, who has much less self-confidence and is still the child who wants to fit in with others.

His basic philosophy on life is fairly straightforward; treat others as you want to be treated and do whatever you want so long as you don't harm someone else. He doesn't like to see others in pain and will do what he can to help, assuming he can come up with something that he thinks will work. He's not opposed to killing for sustenance or defense, but he doesn't do so unless necessary. While he finds the act of killing unpleasant, a part of him derives pleasure from the challenge of a battle to the death. It's not a part of himself that he encourages.

Rob has an inordinate fondness for orcs, primarily as portrayed in the Warcraft franchise. Their general unsubtlty appeals to him after a lifetime of trying to understand people's unstated motives. He admires and envies their strength and bravery, both qualities that he sees himself as lacking. That until recently he only knew them as a fictional culture has been a minor source of shame and embarrassment to him, as he sees it as him being childish.

Powers/Abilities: While magic does not exist in Rob's world, and thus he has no talent for it nor any ability to use powers that require an innate ability, thanks to the tutelage of Ghaleon from the Lunar series Rob knows two spells: Heal Litany and Cleanse Litany. Heal Litany heals injuries and Cleanse Litany cures status conditions. These spells are powered by the faith of the caster and those around them; the caster must have absolute faith that the spell will work, and the amount of belief those around the caster has will affect the strength of the spell. Since Rob has no talent for magic and frequently has bouts of self-doubt his use of this magic is unreliable and weak compared to a proper caster, but he can and has cast the spells before.

Physically he has average strength, speed, and agility. His endurance is still on the low side. He's a sprinter rather than a distance runner, only able to bring out his full strength and speed in bursts. If a battle lasts too long, or if he draws too much aggro, he'll have a serious problem on his hands as he can't sustain his fighting skill for extended periods of time. He has a high tolerance for pain, especially continual pain, and though he'll still flinch if he stubs his toe or cuts himself he can push through it, to the point of injuring himself further if he doesn't realize that what to him is a minor pain is actually a serious problem. He has excellent fine motor skills and is able to work on very small objects, but he's lucky if he can touch a thrown object with his hands, let alone catch it, despite his gross motor skills being otherwise fine. Thanks to the training and experience he gained in the Bastion, he knows the basics of fighting with a sword and shield and is competent at fighting with a two-handed sword or axe. The two-handed axe is the weapon he's best with, but he has no talent for fighting and still isn't exceptional at it. He's at his best as combat support rather than the primary fighter.

Mentally Rob is intelligent and well-read, and can teach himself a lot with an example to follow or something to go on, though he learns faster with a good teacher at his side. His reading has left him with basic understanding of a lot of subjects but he hasn't focused on very many, leaving him with a broad but shallow knowledge base. He knows how to do many things on a theoretical level - wiring a house, flying a plane, building a fire, and so many other things that it would be pointless to list them all - but has practical experience with only a few; he may understand how a nuclear reactor works, but he's by no means qualified to build or operate one. To put his knowledge into practice will require trial-and-error on his part. The areas that he has practical experience in are baking, computers (both repairing and programming), gardening, sewing, woodworking, skinning, leatherworking, blacksmithing, and the kind of alchemy practiced in the Elder Scrolls games. He's also a gamer and has knowledge of several franchises, most notably Warcraft and Magic: the Gathering.

Items on your character:

-Clothing and armor: Elkskin kilt, mammoth hide sandals, red and black greaves and forearm armor with various spikes on them, a belt with multiple pouches on it, antler-point necklace, cord with bits of bone strung on it, septum and ear rings, various rings, beads, and leather cords for keeping his hair in place
-Bastion amulet: Nonfunctional in this world
-Rabbit-skull necklace: A rabbit skull and leg bones strung out on a leather cord, the eyes of the skull glowing due to two shards inside the sockets. The shards are both small power sources, like a kind of battery, but Rob is highly unlikely to use them in such a way since they have personal significance to him
-Wolf headdress: A wolf pelt that can be worn so that Rob's looking through the wolf's eyes, which glow red-orange. The headdress has a number of powers: it can't be damaged or permanently soiled, the wearer ignores the effects of natural environmental conditions and is continually supplied with clean air, it can't fall off on its own or be removed without the wearer's consent, it filters the wearer's vision against bright light and gaze attacks, the wearer's voice is always at the volume they want it to be within human limits, and the wearer can temporarily shift their viewpoint to anywhere that they have an unobstructed view of.
-A two-handed battleaxe
-A large knife
-A spiky and intimidating-looking warhorn
-A magic item that temporarily creates a simple watchtower (only one at a time)
-Hearthstone: A magic item that can teleport him to a previously-marked location. Only one location can be marked at a time.
-Reflecting Mirror: A small mirror that normally reflects only bones like a kind of magic X-Ray machine, but can be made to control constructs called "Myr" and see what they see. It can also store and retrieve copies of memories and reflect spells that manage to strike its tiny surface.
-Hovermyr: One of the aforementioned "Myr", capable of flight and catching flying insects. It can assume a Pokéball-like form for easier transportation, which was on Rob's belt when he came in.
-Squirtle: A shiny Squirtle in a Luxury Ball and holding an Everstone. Its moves are Rain Dance, Protect, Surf, and Aura Sphere.
-Tyrunt: A Tyrunt in a Luxury Ball and holding a Muscle Band. Its moves are Crunch, Fire Fang, Ice Fang, and Thunder Fang.
-Growlithe: A Growlithe in a Pokéball. Its moves are Bite and Roar.
-Turtwig: A Turtwig in a Pokéball. Its only move is Tackle.
-A Pokéblock case with a handful of Pokéblocks in it
-Datascroll: An object that resembles a two-roller scroll, which unrolls to become a highly-advanced tablet computer. It contains a colossal database (the entire contents of several planets' internets), the functionality and data of a Pokédex, some basic tricorder-type functions, and Rob's various files, photos, and notes.
-A one-roller scroll that unrolls to have a solar charger on one side and a keyboard and trackpad on the other. Works with all electronic devices he has on him, and probably with several that other characters have.
-Pathway stone: An object that resembles a large, elongated, 8-sided dice with a faintly glowing band around its middle. Has no functions in this world.
-Bastion compass: Always points towards the source of a specific radio signal being broadcast. Useless in this world unless someone starts broadcasting the signal here for some reason.
-Earthbind Amulet: Can temporarily drag a flier to the ground.
-Lightshaping Amulet: Creates and controls a single point of light.
-Rampant Growth Amulet: Can accelerate plant growth.
-Display Amulet: Can make objects levitate until they're disturbed.
-Bag of Holding: A battered leather satchel that can hold up to 250 pounds without becoming any heavier, so long as it can physically fit through the bag's opening. Whenever someone reaches into it, the item they want is the first thing that they touch (if it's in there). It currently contains primarily survival supplies and food, along with a small number of potions and poisons of various types.
-Storage Portal Staff: Shrinks items and stores them within itself. Nonfunctional on entry. Primarily contains supplies and equipment intended for the Bastion and some miscellaneous personal items, along with the ashes of his family and friends.
